Eating out

Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere village have plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants within easy reach. Ask us for our current favourites when you book.

Pitfalls to avoid

  • Parking in Bowness fills up fast on sunny weekends. The lakeside walk from Beckside avoids the car altogether.
  • Book lake cruises ahead in peak season, especially for the old steamers.
  • Midges can be lively near the water on still summer evenings. Pack repellent.

Staying safe

  • The lake is cold all year. Swim only where it is safe, and never alone.
  • Weather changes fast on the fells. Check the forecast and carry a map before heading up.

Getting here

  • Windermere railway station is nearby, with onward connections for the Lake District.
  • Driving? Beckside has free ample parking for cars and small boats.
